In Karma, a western woman doctor kidnapped into the world of sex slavery in India wonders if according to karma she did something to deserve her fate. Instead she finds the true meaning of karma — that each person has the choice to respond with self-compassion and forgiveness to whatever trauma they may face in life.
Karma, a tale of courage, hope and spiritual awakening, is drawn from the Deville’s insights from her world travels and decades of research. After working 15 years as a successful fashion designer, Deville in 1989 enrolled at the University of California in Santa Barbara. There she was inspired to write an early manuscript based on the topic of sex trafficking she had first encountered as a young woman hitchhiking across India.Publishers and Hollywood expressed interest, "but the public wasn't ready for a story on sex trafficking" at that time, she says.

Women's rights advocate and investigative writer Nancy Deville drew from the experiences of her "unconventional life" to craft her powerful first novel, Karma. As a teenager, Nancy hitchhiked across India and traveled and worked in Spain and Switzerland. Returning to the U.S., she worked 15 years as a successful fashion designer and wrote and co-authored influential books on food and health. Karma is based on her two decades of research into the global sex trade that enslaves 2.5 million women and children. It is a story of courage, hope and spirituality that will enlighten readers on this global problem and inspire them with what Nancy calls the true meaning of karma.
