Eat It Up! A Full Life After Weight-Loss Surgery

Connie Stapleton, Ph.D.

Show Description:
70% of Americans are Considered Obese

First Lady Michelle Obama is creating a task force to address obesity in America’s children.  Oprah’s most popular shows have to do with weight loss, and her struggle to lose weight and keep it off,  while The Biggest Loser is one of the most popular reality television shows today.  Diet books sit at the top of the bestsellers lists.
And yet, we continue to get fatter.
What is the answer?
A current study concludes that teens have a better chance of successful weight loss through surgery rather than diet. Bariatric surgery is proving to be not only a more effective alternative to dieting but also effective in the reduction of health problems, including diabetes, back pain, sleep apnea, and high blood pressure. And yet, even weight loss surgery is not a guarantee of staying slim for ever. 5% or more of weight loss surgery patients gain most or all of their weight back
Why?  A large part of that has to do with the fact that the factors that caused many to be overweight to begin with do not disappear with surgery. As in any other addiction, the underlying emotional issues continue to drive the addiction.  Before those issues are addressed, weight gain will continue.
Author Dr. Connie Stapleton is an expert in the field of weight loss. As a licensed psychologist she conducts pre-surgical evaluations for patients considering weight loss surgery and works with patients to address underlying psychological issues related to their weight loss before and, most importantly, after surgery. Observing patients regain weight after losing a hundred plus pounds Dr Stapleton began to create a program that would help weight loss surgery patients maintain their healthier lower weight. She was able to provide the keys to preventing weight regain following weight loss surgery.
In her new book, Eat It Up! The Complete Mind/Body/Spirit Guide to a Full Life After Weight Loss Surgery, Dr. Stapleton explains obesity’s negative impact on every aspect of a person’s life while offering skills and strategies to overcome the challenges associated with surgical weight loss. Including stories and anecdotes from many of her patients she is able to present valuable and practical knowledge to help insure keeping the weight off.

·         Maintaining weight loss takes the same effort that goes into losing the weight to begin with.

·         Identifying the triggers that result in overeating and understanding that many of those triggers don’t go away with surgery.

·         Overeating is an addiction. Many who lose an exessive amount of weight turn to another addiction, such as alcohol, to “fill the void”.

·         Understanding your ‘Center of Balance’ and the importance of keeping it on course.

·         Losing weight is not the goal; keeping the weight off is the goal of having weight loss surgery.

Dr. Stapleton speaks regularly at Obesity Help conferences around the country. Her articles related to weight loss surgery are regular cover features of OH Magazine. She has also been a featured expert for articles in The New Physician and Pregnancy magazines. She has authored numerous other articles (see www.mindbodyhealthservices.com). In addition, Dr. Stapleton’s work related to surgical weight loss can be seen on her videos on YouTube.
We think your audience particularly those who are considering bariatric surgery, would be interested in an interview featuring Dr. Stapleton and her work with weight loss surgery patients.

Well, as much as I had wanted to begin broadcasting The Catherine Bradford Show as soon as July 16th on LA Talk Radio, it appears that we are all going to have to wait for that DEBUT SHOW. I am hoping to have made it to the other side of these events within a short period of time, but until then, I am asking for your patience.  In the meantime, while taking this short and temporary hiatus from being on air live, I want to invite you to keep c...
