The debate over health care reform is long from over. Today on Eye on Obama we are please to welcome Dr. David Doman, practicing physician and a clinical professor of medicine at George Washington University School of Medicine. He is board certified in both internal medicine and gastroenterology, has been named by Washingtonian Magazine as one of the Capital Area's best gastroenterologists and is a former congressional candidate. Dr. Doman will discuss what life is like for uninsured Americans and why the debate over health care reform is a vital one

As Congress debates the issue of Health Care Reform, 47 million Americans continue to live without health insurance.  The number of uninsured and under-insured continues to grow, touching all demographic and
socio-economic groups, making the issue both personal and political.
 
Increasingly lost in this politicized debate are the real people facing disease and a lack of insurance.  What is life truly like for them?  And what would happen if they took legal action against the U.S. government?
 
Dr. David Doman's book, "Heartbeat" is a novel that explores the story of a dying, uninsured woman who takes legal action against Congress in the U.S. Supreme Court demanding health care access for all Americans.  Dr. Doman's book, drawn from his personal patient experiences, helps personalize and humanize this very complex national issue.

Guest Bio:

David Doman, MD is a practicing physician and Clinical Professor of Medicine at the George Washington University School of Medicine. He is a former candidate for the US Congress.Dr. Doman is married with three children and resides in Maryland.
Dr. Doman completed his undergraduate education at New York University. He received his M.D. from the Eastern Virginia Medical School. He served his internship and residency in internal medicine at Yale affiliated hospitals. Dr. Doman then completed a two- year gastroenterology fellowship at George Washington University School of Medicine ,where he is currently a Clinical Professor of Medicine.

He is board certified in both internal medicine and gastroenterology. Dr. Doman has been elected a fellow of both the American College of Physicians and the American College of Gastroenterology. He is a member of the Montgomery County Medical Society, American Gastroenterological Association, and the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. He is past Chairman of the Patient Education Committee for the National Foundation for Ileitis and Colitis of the National Capitol Area. Dr. Doman is a former member of the Montgomery County Commission on Aging.

Dr. Doman has been recognized as one of the Capital Area's best gastroenterologists in Washingtonian Magazine. Dr. Doman lectures nationally on a variety of topics in gastroenterology.
