April Gabrielle, a counselor/mediator and single mom, shares her personal story of raising two children in a broken home and encourages us that successful parenting can still take place whatever the circumstances. Through her own experiences and lessons learned throughout her career, Gabrielle offers a clear and practical approach to the world of single parenting.
As a single parent who is Black, one of Gabrielle's greatest concerns is the absence of the father in the African American community. Although this is a huge issue in the African American community, Gabrielle feels that no one has stepped up and offered a solution. The Myth of the Broken Home offers a recipe for responsible single parenting, not only in the African American community but in communities all across America and especially those with disadvantaged backgrounds.

Guest Bio:

April Gabrielle’ is a proud single mother of two, one her son, a science major, and a teen daughter who is an exceptional student and functionally bilingual in English and Spanish. She understands by real life experience the many challenges facing single parents, who are attempting with their children to cope through hard work, to rise out of the social and economic pressures facing them.  This San Diego native holds a Bachelor in Business Administration, a Master of Arts in Human Behavior and completed coursework in Master of Education.  She modeled professionally doing runway, TV and print.  April received training as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), has counseled single parents and teens, including those residing in juvenile residential detention facilities. She is a motivational speaker; startup business consultant and owns and operates a mediation service.  April is currently developing a program for single parents with the San Diego Forum on Strengthening the Family.

Spring 2010 April launched "The Myth of the Broken Home”  based on her life as a single mother in America.  This book provides single parents a step-by-step guide to reach their goal of effective parenting and helps to avoid the stereotypes of being a single parent.  April believes that obstacles are no excuse for not parenting our children.  Upon reading this book, single parents will receive the necessary tools to raise accountable, successful, and respectable children.  April offers a very authentic and candid approach towards single parenting.  She delivers instruction through her experiences as a foster child and meeting her biological parents, dating, dealing with the courts, domestic violence, education, discipline, teens, budgeting, and much more.
