A Silk Purse out of a Sows Ear

I love this saying, "Making a silk purse out of a sow's ear". To me it exemplifies the best of the human spirit; our ability to survive. Sadly, in tough times there are those people who do not believe in their own power to deal with whatever comes their way. I was recently shocked to read about the tragic events of a California family where, after both parents lost their jobs, they decided the best solution was to kill the entire family. Sadly the father took their decision and put it into action. All five of their children where shot, then their mother and finally the father turned the gun on himself. His cry for help, calling a local radio station only moments before his actions, came too late. This is not the only story that makes the headlines of papers all over our globe, as people try to deal with the devastation of what 'appears' to be failure and certain ruin.
It saddens me greatly to witness or hear of those who give up hope; who make serious choices, often with fatal consequences, during times of struggle. I cannot give up believing that there is ALWAYS another choice.
Failing is a matter of perspective. To me failing at something is just another chance to try to do it right, or make it right again. No matter how discouraged I become, I understand that as time passes, the pain of disappointment diminishes and my energy rises once again giving me the strength and conviction to get up and try again. Some of the most incredible accomplishments have risen out of the ashes of someone's failure. NO matter how difficult a time or situation may seem, there is always a silk lining waiting to be discovered within the darkness of the cloud. Making gold from straw is only about belief. Call me crazy, but I absolutely believe that anyone has what it takes to make a silk purse out of a sows ear. Remember, don't ever give up! Tomorrow IS a new day.
