Father's Remembered

Fathers are as unique as the stars in the sky. I can think of no two alike. My own experience with my father was unusual, special and tailor fitted for what I needed in my own life to help me learn about myself, who I am, and what I am to 'be' in this lifetime. My belief is that our lives are carefully constructed to offer us opportunities to evolve into humans possessing high levels of awareness, compassion and forgiveness.
My own father did not disappoint, in his task of providing me plenty of chances to accomplish just this. Our relationship was interrupted, for nearly 25 years, by what I perceived to be external circumstances that kept us apart. It was not until after my mother's death, not long after my 40th birthday, that I reached out to reconnect with my father.
I called him on Father's Day, after no contact for 15 years. The last time I had physically seen him was when I was eleven.
The ten years we had together, before he died, we filled with many wonderful opporutnities for mutual healing, sharing, exploring, and growth. I will always remember his smile, his twinkling eyes, his enormous creative talents, and his devotion to his faith, his country and his wife.
The lessons we learn from our fathers are not ones that fade away with time, or death. They are embedded in our hearts, our souls, in our very DNA. They are eternal blessings that remain a part of who we are, ready to stand alongside us, guiding us always to the truth about who we are and who are are 'to be' in this beautiful world.
