A Thought Away From Genius?

I have found myself reflecting heavily on many of the points made during my interview with Derek Mills, author of "The 10 Second Philosophy". Derek speaks a great deal about discovering the genius in each of us by connecting with and honoring the True Self. While I completely agree with his viewpoints, there is one vital perspective I feel a prerequisite before we can fully appreciate the grandeur of Derek's message.

As I continue to experience this world, and my SELF in it, I am discovering that rigid definitions of terms can be incredibly limiting. I have been shown, repeatedly, that an attempt to put the meaning of a word in a box usually results in someone, or something coming along and showing me an example of that particular definition NOT FITTING or being entirely accurate. I certainly appreciate the need for some general agreement to what something means and how this may best serve the global population, but I also feel holding on too tightly to preconceived definitions closes the door of opportunity on our living in an expanded mindset.

If I were to use the word Genius when talking to you, or anyone else, the first thing you would most likely do is silently, and instantly compare yourself to what your own idea of what a Genius is, and in doing so, no doubt place yourself below what you imagine a Genius to be. This knee jerk reaction of instant self analysis, judgment and ranking only serves to separate us for our true self and our true potential.

In the realm of living in one's True self, I believe we shift our thinking to seeing ourselves as limitless, and therefore capable of anything. How do we know what we're actually capable of, or what expressions of self we can manifest if we SEE ourselves through any other viewpoint but our own.

I understand, by my own internal seeing and believing, that I will never be an Olympic athlete. This is NOT because I do not believe I could devote myself to the hard work to accomplish this feat, but rather because I know my own personal likes and dislikes, and understand this is not something that is of great interest to me. See the difference?

I was blessed to have been brought up in a family of doers, and my mother never doubted her ability to accomplish a task she set her mind to doing. She instilled in her daughters a confidence and attitude that allowed us all to be remarkably accomplished women. We are all very diverse in our skills, and perform, with above average technique many things that both men and women are known for doing. This "I can do it" and "I am capable" perspective has been one of the most valuable traits I have enjoyed in my own life.

Expanding this idea to it's fullest potential allows us for thinking in terms of Genius.
Afterall, if you allow yourself to define what Genius means and 'is' to you, not what others may think, then you have no reason to NOT see, and enjoy the Genius in you.

And so, I love what Derek Mills offers us in his work, and book. His "Sky's the Limit" foundation allows us all to spring UP as high as we all believe we can.
